In one of the first road tests for the CART during 2000, the vehicle
imaged a main water pipe in suburban Tampa, Florida. Notably, the
pipe was made of plastic (PVC). The 3-D image produced by the CART
clearly shows the water pipe, at a depth of 36 inches. The image
shows a water lateral leaving the main line just before a main line
valve. The CART survey covered a swath about 500 feet long and 6
feet wide in about 15 minutes. A three-dimensional image of the
subsurface beneath the track of the survey was produced on site
30 minutes after the data was collected.
