The "Dual-Array Project" was one of seven research contracts awarded in October 2002 by the U.S. DOT as part of a new competitive partnership with industry to develop advanced technology for damage prevention and leak detection (U.S. DOT News Release, November 15, 2002). The goal of this project was to develop a system for non-invasive mapping of buried pipelines, down to depths of 10 meters of more, using modern electromagnetic sensors and signal processing. The system combines measurements from two sensor arrays: an array of ultra-wideband ground-penetrating radar (GPR) antennas and an array of broadband electromagnetic induction (EMI) sensors. The EMI array was developed, assembled, and tested successfully in the field during the project, in combination with a commercial GPR array developed earlier by Witten Technologies in a project partly sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute.

The presentations highlighted the goals and accomplishments of the Dual-Array Project, including results from field tests of the new system mapping water, electrical, and gas utilities for conEdison and Regional Water Authority of South Central Connecticut. The table below shows the final agenda. We will make the presentations available to interested parties.
